Wi‑Fi troubleshooting basics

Restart order, channel congestion, and when to call for onsite help.

Most Wi‑Fi problems are fixed with a short, consistent restart sequence. Power-cycling in the wrong order can leave devices stuck with old settings.

Recommended restart order

  • Shut down laptops and phones that cannot connect.
  • Unplug the modem (or ONT) from power for 30 seconds, then plug it back in and wait until online.
  • Unplug the router or mesh main unit for 30 seconds, then power it on.
  • Reconnect devices one at a time, starting with a wired PC if available.

Check placement and interference

Routers perform best when elevated, central, and away from metal cabinets, microwaves, and thick concrete. If only one room is slow, a mesh node or wired access point may be needed rather than a higher internet tier.

When to request onsite help

Call for support if outages affect multiple rooms after a restart, if you see frequent disconnects on wired devices, or if you need VLANs, guest networks, or business-grade security configured.
